Kids can change the world.

The idea of teaching my kids now that they can make a difference in the world has been rolling around in my head for months. It's been one of those things the just keeps popping up everywhere. Two particular scripture verses have been tugging on my heart 1 Timothy 4:12 and Proverbs 3:37-28. The first talks about how kids can be an example of faith and love to those around them. The second encourages to use what we have right now to help those around us (instead of waiting until we have or can do more). Guys, I don't think I have a big circle of influence or that I can honestly change the world. But those two pieces of scripture challenge that- kids can do big things (and I have two kids!) and what I have to offer right now is enough. I can't ignore it anymore. So I'm doing something!

In a few weeks, we're having a Play Date With a Purpose at our house- which is just a fancy way of saying we're inviting any and every family we know to come over to play in our backyard and collect donations for a local domestic abuse shelter. Kids, food, fun, and changing the world. Truly, nothing fancy. Maybe only 3 people with show up. That's 3 people that will be using what they have, right where they are, to teach their kids about Jesus and help others in our community. Three conversations with kids about why it is important to love and help others! Maybe 50 people will come! (ok, that's a big stretch- but how awesome would that be?) It doesn't matter. Every single little bit adds up and makes a difference!

So, you're invited. Yes, the literal you that is reading this. If you live anywhere in Indiana and have kids (or even if you don't!)- pick up some goodies to donate (email me for the list), talk with your kids while you shop about why you're shopping, and then come over to play and celebrate on June 29th! Invite a friend! Don't live anywhere near me? Host your own Play Date With a Purpose on June 29th (or any day!). Do what you can with what you have. Do make it a bigger deal than it is- pick a place that needs your help, invite your friends, and teach your kids about helping others!

It is a great way to teach our kiddos about helping others- especially those in their very community. Let's change the world together!

If you're local, email me for more info/address/to RSVP

(feel free to pass along and invite friends or host your own! The more the merrier!*)

*If you host your own, I'd love to hear about it!
