DIY stenciled nursery. {Royal Design Studio}

  For the longest time, I had zero plans of painting our nursery. The previous owners had painted the room a taupe-color and I honestly really like it. I love neutral. Don't get me wrong, I also love color, but I really had my heart set on a neutral room with pops of colors in accessories. The only problem? It seems I love that taupe-y, grey/brown color a bit much, since the nursery furniture I picked out is the exact same color. We started joking and calling in Jersey's room, since it's basically the color of our Weimaraner. And it kind of looked like a mush of neutral, clean lines. I knew I had to do something, but still wanted to keep the walls neutral {I'm persistent}.
   Enter Royal Design Studio. Oh my goodness, have you heard of them? I'm always drooling over gorgeously stenciled and wallpapered walls and wishing that I could have something that cool in my house. I got to thinking and researching and saw this post, and then the stars aligned and Royal Design Studio offered to send me Endless Circles Lattice Moroccan Stencil from the Allover Moroccan Stencils Collection to try out!
   Almost as soon as it arrived, we set to work. And let me be clear here, by we I really mean Justin. He did 99% of the work! I was there for moral support and help lining up the stencil at times, but that's about it.
  First, because of how the stencil is designed and my stubborness with sticking to the current paint colors in the room, we had to color match our trim and the walls. Then, he painted the whole wall the trim color {what ended up being the 'lines' of the lattice}. After that was the fun part, the stenciling!
   Honestly, it was a pretty simple and straightforward process once we got started. I won't go into a full tutorial here, since there are dozens of great ones online and tons of tips on Royal Design Studio's website. Some things that worked for us were: good painters tape to keep the stencil in place, moving the stencil over every-other space so we didn't have to wait for each one to dry, fully utilizing the convenient marking guides on the stencils to help us line it up evenly, and cutting the stencil when we got to the corners. I know, it kind of seemed like a sin to cut the stencil, but bending it just wouldn't work for us. If you look closely, you'll see we got antsy and some places didn't like up perfectly. We also opted to leave somewhat of a border around the edge to prevent having to cut the stencil up any smaller. Also, stenciling is not for Type A personalities. You could go crazy with touch ups if you wanted to, but honestly you can't see any of those smudges unless you stand with your face to the wall. And I'm pretty sure baby boy won't care at all about any smudges!
  The verdict? I LOVE it. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It helped me keep the room neutral while adding such a big pop of dimension and character. It's the perfect accent wall for the nursery, without being overwhelming. And on a completely mushy note, I love the Justin did it all. Kind of his special project for baby boy, you know? Also, I should note that we didn't fight once during the process. So there's that.
  Eep! What do you think? I can't keep walking into the room to look at it, I love it so much! We've also hung bookshelves, a bright colorful mirror, and put fun knobs on the dresser/changing table. But today, this is all the sneak peek you get :)

So what do you think? Have you ever stenciled a wall? Would you ever?

It looks great! I can't believe you guys had the patience of waiting for it to dry before taping the stencil over the painted parts to continue the pattern! That wall is awesome and I'd be walking in that room all the time to stare at it too if it were mine!

I completely adore this wall! What a great project for Justin to do for that sweet little baby! I would love to have a stenciled wall, but with renting... I doubt it's in the lease agreement. One day. p.s. I can't wait to see more of the nursery!

Looks so awesome! I know you will show the full reveal soon, but are the cribs different, or does the color just change depending on the colors in the room? I think this is the crib we are looking into getting :)
