Choosing joy: Nouwen's words.

This quote is where it all started, this whole focus I have on choosing joy. I don't even remember how I stumbled on it, but it happened last spring. Slowly it's crept into my heart and sort of become my motto. It gets me every time, yet I'm finding I have to keep repeating it for it to stick.
Henri Nouwen was a really wise men, one of the 'greats' in my opinion. And boy, did he have a lot to say about joy. I'm on the hunt to gather all the wisdom I can from him {and others} to share throughout this month. I might be crazy, but I have a hunch I'm not the only one who could stand to learn more about what it means to choose joy. Every. Single. Day.
If you have 3 seconds, take this really quick survey. I want to learn what you think about joy, too.

Love that quote! I found it on Pinterest a while back and made a quick watercolor print of it for my mom's birthday. Sometimes joy is easy to find and I love those moments. But there's something pretty triumphant and life-giving about choosing joy even when it's not obvious.

I love this quote. I think that's the hardest part...choosing it over and over again. I think that's the truth though with anything. You want to be happy? You have to choose to be happy and find things to be happy about. Its hard for me. I have a print on my desk that I designed when I really hated my job that says choose to be happy today. It got me through some rough days.
