I mentioned a while ago that I made some new art for our fireplace mantle. What I didn't mention was that almost as soon as I put them in their place, we found out about our miscarriage. There's no way that was a strange coincidence.
When I finished these, I liked them. The background color was a bit darker than I had expected, but I really liked them. Enough to keep them around for a bit.
And then we found out we had lost our sweet baby, and since then I've come to love these canvases. I don't know about you, but visual reminders help me so much.
And what sweeter reminder in the midst of pain and grief than that of peace and hope in God?
And with that... here's the SUPER easy and cheap tutorial!
I had everything on hand and only spent $3.99 (for the canvases), since everything else was leftover from other projects.
1. What you need:
-Canvases, any size. I had bought this 2-pack ages ago at Hobby Lobby for $3.99.
-Spray paint, for the colors of the letters (I had yellow leftover and it matched our curtains so I went with it)
-Base paint for the background, I used the paint of the accent wall in our living room left by the previous homeowners (so free to me!!!)
-Craft bond. This is to lightly adhere the letters to the canvas while you paint over them.
-Letters! Decide what you want and print them out. I played around with letter and ended up using Arial size 76 font.
2. Spray your canvases with the color you want for the letters and let dry completely.
3. LIGHTLY spray the backs of your letters with the spray adhesive and then line them up using a straight edge. Press into place.
5. Paint over the letters with your background color. Don't worry if the letters curl or crinkle...this gives the letters more character.
6. Before the paint dries, peel off the letters. Touch up any places that may need more paint. Let dry completely and then enjoy!!!

You did such a great job and I love the colors you used too. I'm a huge visual person so seeing these every day, I know for me, would have helped comfort me.
Great job and so cheap too!
